Lian Vandenberg, registered psychologist, Melbourne

A calm, practical space to understand yourself more clearly, make sense of what is going on, and work out what comes next. Whatever has brought you here, whether something specific or simply a sense that things are not sitting right, you are welcome.

Who I work with

Many of the people I see are capable and caring, often good at looking after others and a little less practised at turning that same care towards themselves.

You do not need to see yourself that way to work with me.

Sometimes it is a clear thing: anxiety, depression or low mood, stress, grief and loss, the effects of trauma, a relationship or family difficulty, low self-esteem or confidence, a big life change, procrastination, or pressures at work.

Sometimes it is harder to name: a sense that things are not sitting right, or that the usual ways of managing have stopped working as well as they did.

I work with people through many of life's challenges — emotional, relational and the everyday. I also have training and experience in eating disorders and concerns about food, body image and self-worth.

Whatever has brought you here

I work with adults, from younger people (16 yrs+) finding their feet and working out who they are, through to older adults navigating the changes, losses and questions that later life can bring. Whatever stage you are at, and whatever has brought you here

02How I Work

My approach is built on three steps:

Connection, Clarity, Choice

01Connection

We start by building a connection.

A steady and honest working relationship, which makes it safer to turn towards yourself.

02Clarity

From there comes clarity.

A clearer understanding of your patterns, your beliefs, and what has been driving them.

03Choice

And clarity gives you back choice.

The room to change something inside, or something outside. Both kinds of change are yours to make.

The work is practical. Often you will come away with something to try or reflect on between sessions, and sometimes a session is simply about making sense of things, or sitting with what is not yet resolved. That matters just as much.

Steady, grounded, and yours

04LIAN

A little about me

Lian Vandenberg, psychologist, listening in her practice room

I am a psychologist in private practice in Melbourne's inner north-west. My work is to help people notice themselves again, understand what is going on underneath, and find their way to a more solid sense of who they are and what they want.

05Getting Started

The practical details

I see clients in person in Essendon North and Moonee Ponds, and by Telehealth across Australia. You are welcome to get in touch whether or not you have a referral. Many people see me with a referral from their GP or psychiatrist and claim a Medicare rebate, while others come without one.

I do not take bookings online. I would rather we start with a short conversation, so we can both get a sense of whether I am the right fit for what you are after. You can reach me by phone, email, or the contact form, and I will get back to you myself.
